Services - I Want Lyrics

Information

Umbrella vice president, Jim Blackburn, started the I Want Lyrics project, which was an extension of the now defunct Slacknet Communications project "Got Lyrics?". A long time fan of music, Jim said the inspiration for rushing such a web site into product centers around the fact that "most lyrics web sites on the Internet have the same lyrics as others, and those same lyrics are typically inaccurate or incomplete; it's a real disaster." He hopes that because of the accuracy of the lyrics, it will help make the web site popular.

However, as we remain realistic and keep our heads out of the clouds for a little while, our primary goal is to create a lyrics site with accurate lyrics that are all formatted to be easy to read and follow along with the music.

I Want Lyrics Website

After we at Umbrella abandoned our IRC Network in order to create more web based communities that more people of different interests could access, at first we were without ideas of what direction we wanted to go and with what. Jim Blackburn came to the rescue with an idea for a new way of creating a lyrics site.

Jim and other employees noticed that almost all lyrics web sites were the same, in that they appeared to either copy each other, or there was some kind of database dump of lyrics going around. This, of course, was bad because if something was incorrect on one web site, it was incorrect and most others. So, Jim and Umbrella went forward with the idea that a lyrics site needed to be created from the ground up, with lyrics double checked with multiple sources, read along with the songs if possible, and also formatted to be easy for people to read.
